The Wii, pronounced as the pronoun “we”, is the 5th home video game console created by Nintendo of Japan. The game console is the direct successor to the Nintendo Game Cube. Nintendo explains that its console targets a wider and broader demographic than that of the competition, the Microsoft's Xbox 360 and Sony's PlayStation 3, but it directly competes with the two as part of the seventh generation of video game systems.
The distinctive feature of the game console is its wireless controller, the Wii Remote, which can be used as a handheld pointing device, can detect speed in three directions. Another is WiiConnect 24, which allows it to perform updates and receive messages over the web while in standby mode.
Nintendo first give a hint of the console at the 2004 Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) press conference and later made it to the public at the 2005 E3. Satoru Iwata revealed a prototype of the controller at the September 2005 Tokyo Game Show. At E3 2006, the console won the first of several awards for its ingenious game console concept and design. By December 8, 2006, it completed its marketing blitz and launch it in four key markets. During the week of September 12, 2007, the Financial Times declared Wii is the current leader of its generation in terms of console sales.
