For all the rave reviews, this is a teeny-bopper device. I am gravely disappointed with other reviewers for all handheld devices for not demanding a full-featured personal digital assistant along with the array of kiddie features that come with the iPod.
I can not find an electronic device of any kind that fills my relatively simple shopping list of features:
1. High quality MP3 player and playlist organizer
2. FM radio, so I can listen to the news while riding the bus to work.
3. A work journal like that which most field engineers carry with them to track ongoing project work.
4. Touch screen that allows simple sketches to be added to my work journal.
5. A decent camera that can add photos to my work journal.
6. Blackberry-style email functionality
7. Integrated cell phone
8. A full-function calculator including advanced trig and complex number calculations, as well as financial calculations.
In addition, mobile internet browsing functionality is desirable but I could wait until I'm back at the office to browse if I could get the rest of these core features in a single device.
A full-function address book is also an absolute must, but most iPhone-like devices do a decent job with this.
Nobody puts the whole package together, and I don't plan on carrying an iPhone, a portable radio, and a separate PDA to work with me.
I just lost my Sansa Fuze MP3 player and I'm shopping for an upgrade. I would pay $500+ for a serious PDA. After looking at the iPods, iPhones, Droids, PDAs, etc., I'm buying another Sansa. No matter what I get, I'll have to get two or three separate gadgets to obtain the features I need at home and at work. There's no point in making the dive into a full-featured PDA until someone who understands how professionals do their jobs designs a good one.
