If you don’t know what this little device is for, then you must have been out of the gadget loop for a while. The iPod is actually a brand of portable media players being marketed by Apple that has been around since October of 2001. The iPod lineup currently consists of the iPod Classic, iPod Touch, iPod Nano, and the iPod Shuffle. These devices, as well as most digital music players may also be used as external storage devices. The iPod Classic runs on an internal hard drive, while the other models run on flash memory to enable their smaller size. The iPod Nano replaced the iPod Mini in the market, which is also video-capable. While the iPod Classic, Nano, and Touch all have screens, the iPod Nano is screenless and can only play audio.

The latest addition to the iPod trademark is the iPod Touch, which basically looks like the famous iPhone. This device is also equipped with Wi-Fi and includes Safari, or Apple’s web browser. That means that while you are listening to your digital media player, you can also surf the internet on your iPod Touch. It is also the first of the iPods to give you access to the iTunes store without getting on the computer just to shop for new music. And what’s even better with this device is that it has the ability to detect the last 10 songs being played in a Starbucks café that’s near the vicinity.

Now if you want to have your own portable media player, make sure you know all the details of the product before purchasing it. Even if the iPod Touch may not be for you, the iPod shuffle could be.
